Old Man Emu 2-inch Lift Kit Installation

This installation is being performed in a garage to show the easiest way to install a 2-inch lift on an '86 to '95 Jeep Wrangler. Even though we had air tools in the shop, none were used. It took 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete the installation. Everything went as expected (including the removal of a small chunk of skin from the back of my thumb).

The lift was received as a 2.5-inch lift, but provided 3.25 inches of lift at the rear bump stop to axle. Here is the difference in the measurements taken.

Now comes the difficult task of evaluation. A stock Wrangler has an RTI of 429. I can't wait to get this newly lifted YJ on the ramp. I couldn't even wait to get it flexed, so I took it to the tiered garage area behind my condo.
This flex is with the front control
arm and track bar connected.
There are several other modifications that should be done when lifting a Jeep.
You have to add longer brake lines.  To correct steering geometry a track bar relocation bracket should be used.  The YJ model was designed to have a track bar and the wider shackles have quite a bit of side to side action in them.
Yes, you will have more travel without them, that is why many manufacturers are producing telescoping track bar replacements.  These work well, and one maker boasts a 33% increase.  To get the most out of any lift sway bar disconnects are a must.
